Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — Tennis, Padel, Pickleball and the Caribbean

If you play tennis, padel, or pickleball — and you’ve been looking for a reason to go to the Caribbean — this is it.

The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in Punta Cana is one of the newest facilities in the Rafa Nadal network, and it’s already one of the most complete. Fifteen courts. Three sports. A stunning Caribbean setting. And the same coaching methodology that runs through every Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in the world.

I represent the Rafa Nadal Academy as a partner, and I send players here. This is what you need to know before you book.

Where Exactly Is This?

The center is located in Bávaro, Punta Cana — directly across from ZEL Punta Cana, the lifestyle resort that Rafa Nadal co-created with Meliá Hotels International. You’re about 30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, a short walk from the white sands of Bávaro Beach.

This matters: Bávaro is calmer and more upscale than the tourist-heavy stretch closer to the airport. It’s a genuinely beautiful part of the Dominican Republic — palm trees, turquoise water, warm air — without the chaos of the most crowded resort corridors.

The Courts and Facility

This is a purpose-built facility. Fifteen courts across three sports:

  • 5 tennis courts
  • 4 padel courts
  • 6 pickleball courts

Also on site: a gym with Technogym equipment, a sports apparel and merchandise store, and a small exhibition of Rafa Nadal’s trophies and career memorabilia. There’s a high-tech court with built-in cameras that track player movement and feed data directly into an app — useful for players who want to see what’s actually happening with their game on court.

Head coach Alex Moyá Moreno was selected specifically for his experience at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. The setup here is not a resort afterthought.

Who Is This For?

Tennis: Adults

Adult tennis runs in group and individual formats:

Tennis Program — Group sessions grouped by level. All players are assessed at the start, so you’re working with others at a similar standard. This is the right option for most club players who want real coaching alongside people they can actually play with.

Tennis Doubles Program — Built specifically for doubles players. Tactics, positioning, point construction. If doubles is your game, this is where you want to be.

Premium Tennis Program — Individual coaching, fully personalised. If you want one-on-one focus and faster results, this is the option.

Private lessons are also available as a standalone for any level.

Tennis: Juniors

Juniors and adults train simultaneously in separate, age-appropriate programs. You’re not waiting around while your kids are on court — you’re both on court at the same time.

Junior Tennis Program — Group training for children and youth, structured by level. Purposeful, supervised, and genuinely fun.

Premium Tennis Program Junior — Individual sessions for juniors who want more focused development, are preparing for competition, or simply want more personal attention.

Holiday Camps — Structured junior programs running over school holiday periods. Worth checking dates if you’re planning a family trip.

Padel

Three dedicated padel courts and proper instruction for players at any stage:

Padel Program — Group sessions for players learning or developing their game. A good environment to pick up the sport properly, or sharpen what you already have.

Premium Padel Program — Individual coaching for players who want personal attention and faster progression.

Pickleball

Six dedicated pickleball courts make this one of the most complete racket sports facilities in the Caribbean. If you play or you’ve been wanting to learn, the courts and instruction are here. This is particularly relevant for North American players — pickleball has grown significantly in the US and Canada, and finding a proper facility on a Caribbean trip used to be nearly impossible. That’s changed here.

The Coaching Methodology

The same approach developed at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Mallorca underpins every session here. It’s built around tactical awareness, personal responsibility, and playing in real situations — not just drilling lines of balls.

For adult players, this means sessions feel purposeful. You’re solving problems, building patterns, playing points. The coaches are good at managing mixed levels within the same group, which is harder than it sounds and a skill that separates decent facilities from good ones.

For juniors, there’s a clear developmental framework — not just keeping kids occupied, but actually teaching them to play.

The Hotels

Rafa Nadal Tennis Center hotels Punta Cana

Tennis and padel programs are booked separately from the hotel. Both accommodation options are all-inclusive.

ZEL Punta Cana — The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center sits directly across from ZEL, making it the most natural pairing. ZEL is a 190-suite, all-inclusive lifestyle resort — the first Zel property outside of Spain. Mediterranean in sensibility, Caribbean in setting. Swim-up suites with private gardens, two pools, five dining experiences, a beach club on Bávaro Beach, and a spa. Adults are the primary focus here, though families are welcome. This is the option if you want a relaxed, design-forward experience with easy access to the courts.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf & SPA Resort — Also connected to the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center network in Punta Cana. A larger five-star resort with a broader all-inclusive offering. A good option for families who want more resort infrastructure.

Both properties are a short walk or transfer from the facility.

Weather: When to Go

Punta Cana has one of the most consistent climates in the Caribbean. Here’s the honest breakdown:

November to April — Peak Window The best months. Temperatures between 24–28°C (75–82°F), low humidity, minimal rain. Mornings are ideal for tennis and padel — clear skies, comfortable heat. This is also the busiest and most expensive travel period, so book ahead.

May to June — Excellent Value, Still Good Temperatures climb slightly. Humidity starts to rise but mornings on court are still comfortable. Fewer crowds and better pricing than peak season.

July to August — Hot, Humid, Worth It for the Right Person Higher humidity and afternoon showers. Sessions still run. If you’re flexible on weather and want better pricing — and you’d like to combine sport with the wider Caribbean — this window works.

September to October — Hurricane Season The wettest months and the highest statistical risk of disruption. Lowest prices. Only worth considering if flexibility and budget are the priority over weather reliability.

Beyond the Courts

Punta Cana is one of the most connected Caribbean destinations for North American and South American players. Direct flights from the US, Canada, and Argentina are straightforward. Once you’re there:

Bávaro Beach — One of the best stretches of beach in the Caribbean. The sand is soft, the water is calm, and it’s a short walk from the property.

Saona Island — A catamaran day trip to a protected natural reserve. One of those places people tend to describe as genuinely stunning.

Altos de Chavón — A replica 16th-century Mediterranean village built on a river cliff. Worth a half-day trip.

Cocotal Golf & Country Club — Next door, one of the best courses in the Caribbean.

Water sports — Paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkelling, sailing — all available at or near the resort.

Who This Is NOT For

I’ll be honest:

If you’ve never picked up a racket, this isn’t the first stop. The programs are designed for players with some baseline — complete beginners are better starting closer to home first.

If you want a purely social holiday with no structure — there are simpler options.

If you’re expecting boot camp intensity — this is coaching in a resort setting for recreational adults and families. It’s genuinely good instruction. It’s not a high-performance training block.
