If you play tennis or padel and you’ve never considered Mexico as a racket sports destination, this post is going to change that.
The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in Costa Mujeres, Cancun is one of the best-kept secrets in the Americas for anyone who wants a real coaching holiday — not a resort with a couple of courts as an afterthought, but a purpose-built facility running the same methodology as the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain.
I represent the Rafa Nadal Academy as a partner, and I’ve sent players there. This is what you need to know before you book.
Where Exactly Is This?
The center is located in Costa Mujeres — a quieter, more upscale stretch of the Mexican Caribbean sitting about 45 minutes north of Cancun International Airport, directly opposite Isla Mujeres.
It’s not the Cancun Hotel Zone. That’s important. Costa Mujeres is calmer, more premium, and far less crowded. You’re in a genuinely beautiful tropical setting — white sand, turquoise water, warm air — with world-class racket sports on your doorstep.
The facility sits inside the Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa complex, which also includes the adults-only TRS Coral Hotel. Both give you full access to the tennis and padel center.

The Courts and Facility
This is a serious setup — not a resort add-on.
- 8 clay tennis courts — 5 outdoor, 3 semi-covered with floodlights
- 3 padel courts
- A seven-a-side football pitch
- The Rafa Nadal Museum — trophies, equipment, memorabilia and interactive experiences from Rafa’s career, right on site
- Rafa Nadal Shop
- Café-bar and cafeteria
- Locker rooms
The clay courts are worth flagging. Clay is the surface Rafa built his entire game on — and it’s the surface that rewards smart, tactical tennis rather than just power. It’s also easier on your body than hard courts, which matters when you’re playing every day in tropical heat.
Who Is This For?
Tennis: Adults
This works for recreational club players who want structured coaching in a beautiful setting. Sessions are grouped by level and run by coaches trained in the Rafa Nadal Academy methodology.
Adult tennis programs:
Tennis Program — Group sessions covering technique and match-play development. The right option for most club players who want to improve and enjoy the experience with other players at a similar level.
Tennis Doubles Program — Specifically designed for doubles players. Tactics, positioning, partnership play, point construction. If doubles is your game, this is built for you.
Premium Tennis Program — Individual coaching, fully personalised. If you want one-on-one attention and faster results, this is the option.
Private lessons are also available as a standalone for any level.
Padel: Adults
If you play padel — or you’ve been wanting to try it properly — the facility has 3 dedicated padel courts and two adult programs:
Padel Program — Group sessions for players learning or developing their game. A solid environment to pick up the sport properly or sharpen what you already have.
Premium Padel Program — Personalised padel coaching for players who want individual focus and faster progression.
For Argentinian players especially — padel is in the DNA here, and the coaching quality reflects that. This is not a resort tennis center where a pro shows you a few basics and moves on.
Juniors
One of the strongest reasons to consider this property over alternatives: juniors and adults are coached simultaneously, in separate age and level-appropriate programs.
You’re not waiting around while your kids play. You’re both on court at the same time.
Junior tennis programs:
Tennis Program — Group training for children and youth, structured by level. Fun, purposeful, and well-supervised.
Premium Tennis Program — Individual sessions for juniors who want focused development, are preparing for competitive play, or simply want more personal attention.
Junior Holiday Camps run at key periods throughout the year — Easter, Summer, and Christmas — and are designed for kids who want a real coaching week during school holidays.
Summer Camp 2026 is open now. Spots are limited.
The Coaching Methodology

The same methodology developed at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Mallorca underpins everything here. The approach is built around effort, tactical awareness, personal responsibility on court, and playing in competitive situations — not just drilling.
For adult recreational players, this means sessions feel purposeful. You’re not just feeding balls. You’re solving problems, building patterns, playing points. The coaches are good at working across different levels in the same group — something that’s harder than it sounds and a real skill.
For juniors, there’s a clear developmental framework. Not just keeping kids entertained, but genuinely teaching tennis.
The Hotels

Tennis and padel programs are booked separately from the hotel. The accommodation is all-inclusive — food, drinks, resort facilities included.
Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa A 670-room five-star resort designed for families and couples. Multiple pools, seven restaurants, fifteen bars, spa, direct beach access, kids clubs, amphitheatre. This is the family option — and it does it properly.
TRS Coral Hotel Adults-only, luxury suites, private beach club, quieter and more refined. For adults or couples travelling without children who want a different pace. Full access to the tennis and padel center included.
Both are consistently ranked among the best all-inclusive properties in the Cancun area. Neither is a budget option — and they don’t pretend to be.
Weather: When to Go
Costa Mujeres has a warm tropical climate year-round. Here’s the honest breakdown:
November to March — Peak Window The sweet spot. Temperatures around 24–28°C (75–82°F), low humidity, minimal rain. Clear mornings that are ideal for two to three hours on court before heading to the beach. This is the most popular period — flights and rooms cost more and you’ll want to book ahead.
March to May — Excellent Still very good for tennis and padel. Temperatures climb into the low 30s°C. Humidity starts to rise by May but mornings are still comfortable on court. Beaches are largely seaweed-free until late April. Less crowded than peak season, often better value.
June to August — Hot, Wet, Worth It for Wildlife Temperatures in the 90s°F, higher humidity, afternoon showers. Courts still run — this is Mexico, not Manchester. This is also whale shark season off Isla Mujeres, one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters in the world. If you can handle the heat and you want an off-peak price, this window works.
September to October — Hurricane Season Statistically the wettest months and highest risk of weather disruption. Lowest prices. Only worth considering if flexibility and budget are the priority over weather reliability.
One practical note on seaweed: Sargassum affects Cancun beaches from approximately April through August, peaking June to August. Costa Mujeres is generally better managed than central Cancun. Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox — both easy day trips from here — are largely protected by their geography and a reliable alternative for swimming.
Beyond the Courts
The location is excellent for anyone who wants more than a holiday built entirely around sport.
Isla Mujeres — a short ferry from Costa Mujeres. Small, beautiful, easily explored by golf cart in a day. Good snorkelling and a completely different pace to the mainland.
Chichen Itza — roughly 2.5 hours by road. One of the great Mayan archaeological sites. Worth a day trip.
Whale sharks — June through mid-September, with peak sightings July and August. Snorkelling alongside whale sharks off Isla Mujeres is one of those experiences people don’t forget.
Sea turtle nesting — May through October on local beaches.
Water sports — paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, diving — all available at the resort or nearby.
Who This Is NOT For?
I’ll be straightforward:
If you’ve never held a racket, this isn’t the right first step. The programs assume basic familiarity with the game. Complete beginners are better starting closer to home before investing in a trip like this.
If you want a purely social trip with no structure and just a court to knock around on, there are easier ways to find that.
If you’re expecting academy-level intensity and high-performance training — this is a resort coaching program designed for recreational adults and families. It’s genuinely good coaching. It’s not a boot camp.
