I’m going out on a limb here and say you’re a tennis player with a strong appetite for your game and an energy for life you’re not yet ready to resign? Well, don’t just sit there! Spice up your next adult tennis camp and make a difference.
You remember the book, The Joy of Sex, by Alex Comfort released in 72’? That book stood on the New York Times Bestseller list for 11 weeks!
I often think how Mr. Comfort missed an opportunity by not picking up a racquet. Because I see all kinds of ‘joy’ out there in adult tennis camps.
I can’t tell you the many times I ask clients directly, ‘what does the game bring you personally in your life?
The most popular answer being – joy.
See for me, it’s adult players driving the game while juniors drive the fame. Adults show up with mucho gusto! Eager to improve, break a sweat get their heart racing and fire up that healthy glow!
Adults look for 3 key things. Action, results and a friendly travel experience.
At least in my camps.
Adult Tennis Camps – Crank up the Action?
#1 They come to improve their game.
They don’t want high court ratios and levels allover the place.
They want me to shake it up for them. Get them thinking out of the box. Figure their game out beyond drills or find that perfect toss. They need basic strategies for singles or doubles to be played out in LiveBall.
The very best part when that ball goes live for any player is the action!
A mix of mental stimulation and an aerobic heart race so we can bypass the gym afterwards.
Who past 35 isn’t looking for that ‘good tired’?
Who Thinks Your Health out there is a Team Sport? I do.
Most importantly they want to stay healthy.
When adult tennis players come to adult tennis camps for intensive daily instruction allowing tennis to go on repeat with strokes, drills, and footwork patterns – you really need to be doing it technically correct! Otherwise the heart pumping action can come to a standstill – fast!
Too many times I see teaching pros let players get away with basic corrections.
Understandably adults are eager beavers to get playing but when that first annoying ache rears its head and you start popping ibuprofen, DO NOT ignore it. You’re doing something wrong.
Next you’re wrapped in a compression bands or neon kinesiology tape you guys seem to like at first! Because it signals you’re a player – tough – dedicated and not going down easily.
Until that third- unlucky charm. Where your Doctor sidelines you because your injury requires total rest or worse yet physical therapy.
Just like that. The action can come to a halt!
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Even if you started the game in the days of MacEnroe or Sampras – the game’s changed.
The good news is even though their era’s over their shot selections and all court game are 100% relevant.
These days, the grips slightly differently. Your one handed backhand is now a 2 … finishes look different & the balls bounce so much higher!??
It’s ALL good. Especially when adult tennis camps blend the best of a classic and modern game. We promote best game for your individual style & athletic abilities to get the job done.
We want you feeling totally relevant, hip & inspired to the game but we also want you playing real tennis injury free.
And we know you want that too. Otherwise this game’s not worth your efforts.
Also getting out of your comfort zone is being a solo traveler in a new training environment. The coaching system may be different back at home. And other players may be from far out places you need to look up on the map. Again, it’s all good!
Get Out of Town!
Anytime you pack your tennis bag and board a plane? You’re on an adventure.
How cool are you?
It was always my dream as a top junior to play internationally. I never did. But I love giving adults the ch
ance to experience international players and the game worldwide.
When I travel to Barcelona and Mallorca I always see tip top juniors traveling alongside me, alone carrying heavily branded 6 pack racquet bags in route to their next tournament.
I KNOW their competition will be international. I know the experience they’re gaining is enormous and the maturity they carry shows. You’re adult tennis camp is very much the same.
Except you’ll train together, play friendly matches and make new friends to pop out to dinner with minus the monster mental pressure.
The Climax of Adult Tennis Camps
Sport travel as an adult adds a real air of optimism! You’re all in the same boat. You’re traveling for your game and hopefully a new place you’re curious about.
The sport and culture of the game very naturally connect you players and opens doors. I don’t know about you but when I travel I grow. I see levels of generosity and kindness I forgot I had.
Letting your guard down and sharing very simple questions with others, many times open up to incredible stories and good times.
In a time where the world seems to be going inwards – fearful of the other, makes travel even more important now.
Luckily, it’s tennis so the destinations are often very special, simple & warm. The landscapes are super and food, tasty and fresh. Often in perfect climates making new friendships.
The best part of adult tennis camps? The residual effects.
It’s very likely instructional cues have had time to simmer & marinate back at home. You’ve taken the time to really figure out your game – understand strategies and clean up your technique.
In reality, you need to go home and keep implementing those cues. Let it come back to you over the next months.
Trust the instructions & yourself. Before long you’ll know what to do in points, matches, situations. You’ll stop being fearful in matches and start finishing strokes instead of pushing the ball. Big difference!
And then? The wins come!
Wins never come for ANYONE, right away. Know that.
Eventually, I get the call from a client celebrating the first big win or tournament or even tiebreaker. But I always get it.
And this is why I know it’s YOU who’s driving the game. Because the action is so addictive you just won’t give up.
And I won’t give up on you.
